"Vespers Chants"
Vespers is a
solemn evening service performed on days preceding holy days,
Sundays and days that highly honour Saints. It comprises of a
great evening service, morning service with the full light
illumination and praising the name of the Lord, and the First
Hour.
The CD program
contains recorded Vespers Chants composed by different composers
of the 20th Century. The words of players make up the base of
lyrics.
Six choirs by P.G.
Chesnokov (1872-1944) united into the collection, "While the
Battle Times" has been dedicated to the memory of the victims
during the First World War. The written choral pieces are based
on sacred texts and organically unite traditional reserveness of
creed and emotional domain of human being.
This composition
which has become the highest peak of sacred choral art has
firmly become part of the Golden heritage of the masterpieces of
the world choral culture.
Vespers Chants
are performed by male vocal company "The Blagovest". The founder
and the leader of the company is Lev Pankratov.
"The Blagovest"
was founded in 1991 on the base of the male choir of the
Annunciation Monastery in Nizhny Novgorod. It has proceeded with
spiritual and cultural traditions of the John of Damascus Church
Chorister Fraternity (existed from 1912 to 1917) founded by the
clergyman of Nizhny Novgorod eparchy.
Now male vocal
company "The Blagovest" under the guidance of the preceptor Lev
Pankratov give regular concerts in Nizhny Novgorod as well as in
"Golden Ring" historical centres, combining them with spiritual
enlightenment activities.
